Gonna introduce myself - I'm Katie. New to this forum, but have been a BYC member for a while now.
We have a mixed Irish-Taiwanese family of six - me & hubby, three sons (Rowan, Cole Liam, and Declan) and one daughter (Áine).

We currently have a flock of seven hens, and are planning on getting two Dwarf Nigerian goats soon. I am absolutely in LOVE with these guys and have wanted to own a pair for as long as I can remember! I am reading all the wonderful info available here in hopes of providing the best possible environment and care for them when the time comes.

I am an avid gardener, and I love preserving, canning, and prepping. We have been slowing moving towards self-sufficiency (as much as is possible these days with limited funding). We are huge on being able to provide for ourselves and would eventually like to go completely off-grid one day. We have a long way to go though, and a lot to learn.

Nice to meet y'all!

Welcome from NH! I love your kids' names! My husband is of Irish descent (I am Scottish)

You'll love your goats! I have mini alpines and Nigerian dwarf goats, as well as pigs, chickens and turkeys. We are also trying to be as self sufficient as possible, nice to talk to others with the same mindset!

Welcome from Indiana!
It's funny the folks that lived off the grid without certain conveniences did it because of low funds, and now to accomplish it, it takes more funds.

I understand your goals and desires though. Most on here want something similar, I think.
A good way to achieve it is with meat rabbits. Just sayin'.
I am obviously biased. Blessings to your family in your endeavors.

It sounds like you are getting a good start towards your "Goals". We have goats, chickens, ducks, and cats. There is a lot of good, helpful folks here willing to help ya with their advice and experience. You'll find quite a bit of info in the existing Forums and Threads, so browse around and make yourself at home. If ya have a question, advice, or comment feel free to post away....and never hesitate to post pics of your animals...we all love pics and you'll see plenty of them in the Threads too.....again....:welcome

Welcome from Ohio, and good luck with your plans. Not trying to switch you over to sheep or anything :) but have you ever been to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival?

Thanks all! Great to see that this is also an active community! Nothing sadder than a quiet forum.

-- I know right?! It's crazy how much money it takes just to get away from our dependency on the system. Makes me just want to pack up and go - Beverly hillbillies in reverse! LOL!:D Meat rabbits have actually been on my mind. I eventually want to begin raising for meat (chickens, rabbits, ducks, etc.). One project at a time though hehe. Good to know who to talk to when that comes around though!:clap

-- I haven't been, but I love going to ag fests and meets. Do you have a link to a flyer or something I can print out? I would love to look into it.

I just saw you are in Maryland.
We reserved a buckling as a future herdsire from a farm in Maryland.
The little guy was born last week, so we will be picking him up this summer.
