I came across Back Yard Herds seeking information on raising goats & chickens. This forum seems to have a wealth of "real" information. When my children were growing up we had a horse, raised cattle for our own meat & the kids raised rabbits. After a few years of no livestock type animals ( always dogs, cats & birds) I'm changing directions. I've been raising a Boer goat, that was rejected by her moma, in my home since Christmas. I will be getting 2 more goats in a couple of weeks. Hoping Twiggy will figure out she's a goat & not a dog. 
I will be receiving my first flock of chickens the first week of May. Excited about these additions to my life but a wee bit scared since I travel about 6 weeks a week (usually not for more than 2 weeks at a time) & I'm now at the older end of "middle age" if not past it. I've wanted to raise goats & chickens for years. I decided it's either now or never. Glad to be a part of this forum.
