Welcome from Texas! My husband was born in Killen, Al just outside of Florence. North Alabama is some beautiful country, the creeks flow with clear cold water, lush forest, great gardening and the people are so nice! You will like it there.
Everytime we pass through Killen we laugh at the pharmacy - Killen Drug Store and anything else Killen related that shouldn't be said together.

Welcome from California make sure to add a couple of pigs to your list of animals you have
I am have really thought about it, we love pork and some pasture raised pork would be great. We just have to figure out the fencing part of goats, cattle, and some pigs. There is existing triple strand barbed wire on 3 sides - the forth side is some of that pvc white picket horse fence stuff. It's pretty and goes well with everything but couldn't keep anything in or out.

Thanks. I've always loved country living and hard work so hobby farming seems a natural fit.

welcome from Arklahoma. glad to have you here
I have been through Arklahoma before - when I saw the name I knew I had been there just could not remember why. Sad story we got lost after a funeral for my great uncle around the Fort Smith area. We really considered moving to North Arkansas as that whole area is so beautiful. My Great grandparents lived just south of Fort Smith in the Parks, Ar area. We (the family) still have Indian land grant title to what is now about 40 acres - there's just no jobs to support it.

Joel Salatin has videos on YouTube about his pigs that might give ideas on fencing just make sure there's no weak areas pigs will find them better then you can and out the fence they go

A little Irish Trivia for the morning :) Kil translates to church in Gaelic

My family originated in Kildare (Cill Dara in modern Irish), derived from Cell Dara meaning "Church of the Oak".
