Looking advice for what I need to buy/look for to start hoof trimming. Not done this before, he rocks and blocks took care of this when my herd was smaller and younger. -Thanks

Go to YouTube and look for a video on goat hoof trimming. I would imagine there is one on there.

You need a good pair of sharp hoof trimmers, very similar to hand held pruning shears.

Go to Hoegger's Supply website, there are photos there of hoof trimmers.

Be sure you do know how to shape the hooves and what not to do before you start. One thing, don't trim the "frog" part, the back of the hoof, and take off a little at a time.

I would ask a neighbor to show you one or two times, or hire someone the first couple times and have them teach you. That would be worth the money to learn the proper technics.

You-tube videos helpful

PUtting them up on a small stand while trimming really helps you beable to see the hoof properly, but it can be done on the ground with you just bending over.

Some koppertox or hoof heal incase there is a sore spot on their hoof.

A halter is helpful for tying them up, instead of just a collar on them.

tips on getting a difficult goat to stay still?!

My girls are so sweet and love us so much, cuddlebugs to the extreme, but touch their hoofs and they are kickin all over the place!!! One of them is pregnant so I don't want to be wrestling her to the ground but I need to trim sooo badly.

Got em at a year old. Gonna be sure to handle their babies feets so as to not run into this again. Arg!!!!

tie them to a sturdy post next to a sturdy fence or wall with a halter, tie them tight right up to the post, sometimes I even tie their horns to it, so they can't move at all, then lean them up against the wall. Have a second person lean on them to hold them still. If they don't think they can dance around they give up. do the one side and then you often have to retie them to reposition them to do the other side.

When they can't move their head around they often give up.
