Last year when I got Rocket and Scarlet in the fall, we had them vaccinated with a 5 way + WNV. I was wondering if I should consider vaccinating them now that it has gotten warm or if I should just wait until the months we vaccinated.

The mosquitoes are already out! :barnie

Your best bet is to ask your local vet as they will know if they are seeing higher cases of any diseases. Personally I vaccinate my horses in the spring and it won't hurt them if you boost them now instead of in the fall.

I vaccinate in the spring, also.

Personally, I think a five-way combo vaccine is too much for a horse's system.......while I know some horses may tolerate it, I've known of many horses who end up feeling punky and under the weather for a week sometimes.......and most experts agree that's a real stress on their system to have to deal with all at once.

We break our vaccines up into at least three different shots and spread them out over about two to three weeks. Our horses have less reactions and seem to feel better overall. :)

Very good to know I was wondering about the five way, I usually give 2 or 3 separate shots also, pending on what they need.
