Hi all.

We've got a horse with rainrot. :( We saw a tiny! area of it in the late fall and washed her down with a lysol/water solution that was recommended. Thought it was sorted out but now I can see it's not! And it's obviously spread.
Trouble is this is Wisconsin! At it's very warmest right now it's about 40f. The horses have a sheltered area to go to protect them from the worst of the elements but I don't have a warm barn I can take her into to wash her down in.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there anything I can do now? A well intended friend mentioned a dose of penicillin for her so she doesn't get anything worse(as a complication from the rainrot).

I couldn't find anything on here recently about the topic, and anything I do find seems to be recipes for washing her down on a weekly basis. Maybe I'm wrong but I think its way too cold to be doing that but at the same time I don't want to sit here and do nothing. :( Any thoughts?

Go to anyplace that sells horse products (tack store, co-op, Tractor Supply, etc) and get a bottle of MicroTek. It's a black spray bottle. Spray just the effected areas. Apply liberally and if they've got long hair there (not clipped, or anything) then part the hair some when you spray and rub it it a bit so it gets down to the skin. Spray twice a day.

It is by far the best I've found for rain rot. I don't ever bother to bathe a horse with rain rot anymore, even in the summer. MicroTek is so much easier and faster and works much better than any other remedy I've tried. You'll see noticeable results in just a couple of days.
