We are building a house for the goats just like we have for chickens, mounting it outside the chain link to save room in pen with access from inside and a drop-down door.
They prefer the chicken house but that isn't working in terms of being pooped on AND eventually....they will not be cute tiny babies. There isn't room for 2 full size ND's in there.

So, this weekend....we are putting together a new house for them.
What size? 2 wether Nigerian Dwarf goats.....9+ weeks old now but we want to build for when they are fullsize.

Hubby thinks 4 x 4 x 4 high.

Does that sound ok?

Our goat cabanas are 4 feet tall with a slope for rain, 4 feet wide and 8 feet long... why? Because that is the best use of a sheet of plywood. We put metal roofing on the top. We also found out, the hard way of course, that you do need to put down something more than 2x4 to connect the metal roof to as they goats can and will get on the roof and stomp around.

We have one of these cabanas in each of the two doe pens. One pen has 5 does, the other has 4 does and 2 wethers. We tried doing a 4x4x4 and it ending up seeming to us to be more work and really less useful. In our buck pen we have one of the 4x4x8 and two of the 4x4x4 and there are 2 bucks and 7 wethers in there. The two 4x4x4 are facing each other, off set by 2 feet so the boys can run in one side and out the other and also to maximize the roof space since that is a favored spot for a nap.

Sometimes I think it doesn't matter much what they have as they sleep on the roof, on the dirt, under the hay rack, occasionally in a cabana... but the good lord help everyone if there is a drop of rain. All 9 of the boys in this pen cram into the 4x4x8 cabana until the rain stops. Silly boys.

OK, like you really wanted to know about my silly boys, so for your two wethers I should think the 4x4x4 would be fine. They aren't going to spend much time there anyway if the weather is nice. If you wanted to be nice, and if you have the room a 4x4x8 would be better as it would allow expansion of your herd... cause you know, you really, really know that you aren't going to stay at just 2 goats. Admit it, deep down you want more!

Enabler? Who me?

HAHA! I promised hubby just 2....so for now, it will stay 2 but as quick as he is attaching to them.......
Though we said just 3 chickens when we started that 5 yrs ago and current count is 12 chickens and 4 ducks....though we have been up to 20 chickens and 3 ducks...... and are permitted for 14 chickens and 6 ducks.....so we have a little room for expansion when we want another 1 or 2.....

That is what we did for the chicken house, made it 4 x 4 x 8 with bumpouts for nesting boxes and the ducks.
And they are sharing a huge L shaped pen with the chickens and ducks, 10 x20 of it is 100% covered so they spent most of this week THERE. House is mainly for night or if they want to chill as they need to get out of chicken house before they grow too much but while I like the dogloo we have for them....I would prefer something secure that I can close.

THANKS!

I have 2 ND doelings and I built them a 4x8. I think they will fit perfect in there maybe with room for one more next year. I plan to build a covered roof extending off the front and a milk room attached to the side.
