My 7 year old Doe was producing 3/4 gallon a day BEFORE she got into some medicated kid food and now is recovering from scours. She is barely giving 1 cup per milking. What can I do to keep her from loosing her milk while she is still getting better. She is eating hay today but I am keeping her off of the grain for 24 hours after she stops scours. Not sure where to post this question.

Give her some time. Her body is probably very dehydrated and needs all the water she can get to replenish herself. She will not dry up from one bout with scours. Focus on getting her healthy again and then worry about production.

Whenever mine get diarrhea or anything from grain etc, all I do is just cut out everything but their free choice alfalfa and give them probios. They are always back to normal in a day or two.

do your dairy goats ever dry up and start producing again? I am MORE concerned about her getting over scours and being healthy than the milk, for sure. The reason I am so focussed on all my questions about her milk is because I have a 4 month old baby and thats all she can drink. I have some frozen.... but not much. Honey is giving about 1/4 cup a milking. This morning she is mooing and walking around grazing and acting almost normal. She use to moo when it was time to milk. This is the first day she feels well enough to moo and stand by gate. YIPPPEEEE She still has loose bowls but not squirts. Hows that for breakfast talk? :0)

Like another poster mentioned she is probably just dehydrated. Just like with people, when they get diarrhea the intestines don't absorb water from the food, but instead put it back into it making it watery, that's why her milk production is down. You can try giving her some electrolytes, or gatorade/ pedialyte, I mix apple flavored horse electrolytes for my girls on hot days and they drink it right down. I doubt she will completely dry off; sounds like she is already feeling better so her milk production should go back up naturally.
