How do I train my doe to be milked? any tips?

She is friendly; but won't let me touch her much...she likes peanuts for treats and will let me pet her a little while she eats them ; but that's all. She will be kidding in about 9 days and I want to get her used to being milked...any ideas?

Most of my does won't let me NEAR their udders until they are within a couple days of going into labor. Then the hormones change and they go from leaping like I've just shocked them to squatting when I touch their udder. The only thing I practice (in terms of milking) is getting on the stanchion so they learn to associate it with food. I really don't try to handle back ends (with the exception of pre-kidding haircuts) until after they kid.

I feed on the milk stand before kidding and brush and pet them. Most of mine have been shown, so they have been clipped and set up and are used to being handled. Don't give up, we did have one doe that just did not want to be milked, 2 weeks of milk everywhere before she finaly gave in and now she is so easy to milk.

what i'm doing with my goats is feeding them on the milkstand. they eat and i pet them and touch their belly and udder. you might want to start by just feeding her on the stand, or however you will be milking, and pet her like normal. and day by day slowly work towards peting her belly and touching her udder. good luck!
