I have 2- 10 wk old banded kids the folks at the farm say "about a coffee can a day of grain for the first year" I have been giving a little under 2 cups in the morning of purina goat chow and the same in the afternoon. they also have free choice hay and their pasture also loose minerals. they are not eating much of the hay but are eating the grain like little pigs...
(they act VERY hungry!) does this seem appropriate,or am I giving too much or too little grain?
Any advice would be appeciated! Thanks

When I brought my two 12 weeks old Boer wethers home, the breeder said to feed 2-3 cups a day per kid. Watch how they do and adjust the amount if they seem to lose weighs or gain too much. Mine don't eat much hay either. I figured either they don't like it or they prefer to browse on something else. They are gaining about .5 lb a day and are eating just 2.5 cups a day of goat grains, free choice of hay, alfalfa pellets and browse on the property. They are 4 months old now. Eventually their main diet would be just alfalfa hay and pellets and minerals. They don't really need grains but maybe for supplement or treats.
