How much minerals should i be leaving out for the goats? or should i just use a mineral block? and i also read some where people were feeding them baken soda? Could someones explain this to me?
Minerals should be loose and left out free choice. Only put out enough to last a couple of days as most goats won't eat "stale" minerals.
Goats cannot get all that they need via blocks and will sometimes break teeth trying to bite off chunks if that is all that you give them for minerals. I do have mineral blocks in my pasture but I have horses and a steer in there too. Some of the goats will lick the block but they use the loose minerals mainly.
Baking soda should be kept on hand for emergencies and as needed but should not be left out free choice. Leaving it out free choice often leads to mineral deficient goats. Why? Because they'll eat the baking soda because it's salty and not the minerals. So, keep it on hand but don't leave it out.
Keep in mind though that almost nothing is absolute. You need to find what's right for you, your goats and your farm.
