So my silver foxes are 5.5 months now and I tried to breed them last night. My buck was super excited and beside himself trying to do the deed including the poor girls head.... I had great luck with my last rabbits breeding first go around even though by buck was much smaller than my doe. I left them for 20 minutes and he was not getting any better so I put her back in her cage to try again this morning. Well today he is still not really getting it right and has not "fallen off" as my old buck did. So my question is how would you breed two untried rabbits would you keep breeding them until he gets it right and falls off? I know some bucks don't do that so I'm concerned about trying when she is already bred and having staggered babies. I have been looking on craigslist now for a proven doe any meat breed just to maybe help him get the hang of it and get some meat babies from. What would you all do?

My initial thought is.... the doe might be a bit too young. Bucks mature somewhat earlier than the does. SF are a fairly large size breed and she just might need more time. YMMV of course.

Actually, I think you have this backwards. Bucks take longer to mature.

At 5.5 months, it's a gamble. I've bred bucks at 5 months successfully but have also had some that wouldn't breed until as long as 8 months. Most are around 6 or 7 months with the size of rabbit you're breeding. Your doe at 5.5 months will breed. Some like to wait a little longer to let her grow a bit more (many stop growing when bred, or at least do not grow to their full potential). But early breeding shouldn't effect her production results.

Well she is a little bit bigger than him so I guess I will wait 35 days see if anything happens on day 28 on and see if he catching up in size to her then try again if she doesn't kindle which I am doubting she will. She is not uncooperative she just plops down in the middle of the cage. Doesn't mean i'm going to stop looking for a new gf for him.....My husband is going to kill me lol
