I'm selling my twin boys. One I banded already a while back, and the other I thought we'd keep, but we've decided not to.
Anyway, is 18 weeks too old to band him?? Will the new owners run into problems if we him at this age? They are requesting it
and will pick them up in a week.

You can band at any age as long as you've got large enough bands and your bander is large enough to accommodate the job. To me the question is always how young is too young and that is 8 wks imo...but at to a age that is too old - there's not one.

eta: the new owners shouldn't run into any problems just make sure that they know that it'll be falling off it about 4-6 weeks.

a lot of stress on the animal in one week. If the new owners do not have any goat medication, and you have LA 200 injectable on hand or an equivalent, you might want to treat him for a couple days right before sending him to his new farm. Plus a 5 day dose of coccidiosis meds for the new owners to administer or a 3 day treatment of safegaurd. We have been seeing a lot of goats going to new homes this summer have pnuemonia and coccidiosis problems.

He should be fine still. They even make a banding tool for doing adult bulls, but I think the regular kid/lamb/calf bander should still work fine unless he is particularly large.
