Hi guys... stopping on by from backyardchickens site
I'm new to horses, and this site too. I'm hoping I'll be able to find some help here.
We adopted a rescue horse around the new year. He's a 21 year old quarter horse, and hes just awesome. He was severely starved when he was rescued, but has put his weight/shiny coat back on at the rescue home. Since We've brought him home we discovered he has some pretty bad ulcers, were guessing from the horrible conditions he was in. I'm being told just give him mayloxx every day, but I'm thinking there is more I should be doing. I've tried reading the internet, but there is so much information, I'm over whelmed.
Any suggestions on what I can give him to help heal the ulcers? He gets a scoop of grain and flake of coastal hay 2x a day. He also has 2 acres of pasture to roam in during the day. Living in Florida, is still mostly green. I fear hes lonely, and wondering if that is flaring the ulcers. We are looking for a pasture pet to keep him company.
I welcome any suggestions you may have.
Thanks!
