My 1yo wether has is continually biting and scratching at a small cut he has on his back. He is irritating it and pulling his hair out also. I have been treating the wound with some salve, it's nothing major, but the goat is continually messing with it. I had this brainstorm that maybe I could put one of those dog cones on him so he can't scratch at it...would that work? If not what else could I do to stop this behavior? It is in a tricky spot so I can't really wrap it up, it's right on his rump.

I would think if he is biting and nibbling at it, it maybe irritating him, like itching.

Have you checked to make sure there is no infection?

I am not sure if a cone, would work, I think it might spook him too much.

Hope someone else comes along with some better information.

I would'nt do a collar either...I dont think it would work...I would clean it the best you can. Debris any dry skin and hair etc off the wound and put a good spray of blu kote on it.

Blu kote will also cover any fungal infections that may be causing the itch. I personally would wear rubber gloves cleaning that wound just incase your dealing with a fungas.

Just a thought? Did you check for lice??? That can make them itch like crazy and they scratch with their mouths which could cause lite wounds.
