So, after reading a post on here, I want one super bad! Those things are freaking amazing! Are there any breeders near me? Where can I find them? Are they super expensive?

Lemme ask you somthing: WHY do you want one, other than the fact that they look cool? Is it for your freezer, as a breeding animal which you want to start your own herd, or simply as a lawn ornament?

I wouldn't know if there are any BB breeders where you are. You might have to do some research on that.

Are you ready to be eaten out of house and home? We have some Holstein/Belgian Blue crosses. They eat! And I mean they eat everything in sight!

I just spent a week at the fair across from two BB cows and their calves, and got to know more about the breed. Be sure to really research the breed before you jump in. They come with some pretty extreme calving complications. The breeder across from us, who has had them a long time and loves his animals, is now inducing labor in his cows to get the very large calves born before their last growth spurt. IMHO, that's way more labor-intensive (no pun intended) than I'd ever want to have to get with cattle. :/

I'm a little late responding here but a guy near us, Mark Sconce, raises them and has imported them from where ever they come from originally and has one of the top herds in the US (according to him anyway). He owns a bull that was shown in Europe that was the first US bred to ever win there.
If anyone is interested, I can get his number. My husband knows him.

I think the Belgian Blues look very neat and I'm on of those people that would have an animal just for looks. LOL

I think I'd have to draw the line at these mammoths, now if I had the money, facilities and time, I would so be developing a MINI BELGIAN BLUE! I know, I'm a dork, but the only reason I'd have one is for the shock value of the double muscling. LOL

I have one word for you if want Belgian Blues: dystocia. And now people want to miniaturize them too? Good grief, where does the insanity end?

I agree, Belgian Blues are impressive animals to be sure, but they belong with serious producers who have a well planned goal in mind. They're not for the casual "cow" owner.

There is no end to the insanity. Just look at the dogs you see today, English bulldogs, pugs, and any other brachycephalic breed of dog, most of these dogs need caesareans or other assistance with birth and reproduction.

Bred about 10 older cows to a BB about 12 years ago for a neighbor. Out of the 7 that settled, he had his vet do C sections on 4 of them. The other 3 did calve with assistance. If I remember correctly, he wound up with about 5 live calves. He had a couple of heifers that he planned to keep and breed, but their foot and leg structure was very poor. I think he finally did get one of them to breed, but they matured very late, and didn't calve with the rest of his herd. He is no longer in the BB business, and now dabbles with bucking stock. Ugliest cows in the world, and hard to keep in a fence. Make mine Sim/Angus crosses.

If you really want one, then search for a breeder....I just have no idea if there is a breeder in your general area. Hit the internet. You should hit many sites with Blegium Blue cattle breeders in the states.

just research them and see if they are what you truly want....then go for it.

anything registered will be more expensive than un-registered etc. So I can't quess a price either on these.

but if it is what you want--go after it! Let us know if you get one!
