We brought home a new doe Friday night, a second freshener less than a week past kidding. She is a French Alpine that milked well last year as a first freshener. Yesterday morning was our first milking with her and she only gave us 2.5 cups. Last night was 2 cups and this morning even less. I'm wondering if it is the stress of being in a new place that has her production so low? And if so, will it increase once she is accustomed to us? The previous owner has suggested that we add in a third milking, which we will do today, but I'm feeling discouraged.
We are feeding alfalfa hay and 16% protein grain, which she just nibbles at.
