Loving the herd life
I just put a deposit on a buckling who's both parents have won grand champions. I've never put much thought into showing . I was just wondering are there cash prizes or is it all for titles?
Besides hoof rot (which I have never heard of being contagious) and pink eye (which is a temporary illness), what other diseases have you brought home? I am not asking snarkily here, just curious because those two I would not be concerned over. With other animals, the risk of transmitting disease may be greater (say with poultry for example in which a plethora of illnesses are able to be passed from one bird to another just because of the nature of the diseases). I mean, yes you could possibly have a goat get something but what is my question?goodolboy said:I would have to disagree. Anytime your livestock is around other animals you don't have control over, you run the risk of bringing something home. Hoof rot, pink eye, sickness of all kinds. When we show our animals stay with show animals only until they are done, then most go to the freezer. If not the freezer then they need to be quarintined for 30 to 60 days before reinterducing to you flock or herd. Over the years of showing animal we have brought stuff home, luckly we kept it contained to the show animals.
