Went and got 4 rabbit for meat, Planned on getting 3 for $8.00 ea. When I got there the guy said I give you 4 for $20.00. I said OK. Got 3 girls and one male. The male is black. One girl is white (I think a new zealand) the other two girl are brownish grey sort of the same color as a cotton tail. He wasn't sure what breed they were. He said his farther in law gave him some rabbit not knowing thet they were pregant. So It looks like I'll be making some cages this wekend. Any suggest on what not to do when building the cage. I figure on making a four section cage. Each section 2 foot wide and 3 foot long with 1/3 of it cover for shelter. about 2 foot tall. I was think of making the bottom of the shelter section out of wood and have it so it could slide out for easy cleaning. well any suggest would be helpfully.

Congratulations and Welcome to the world of rabbits.

I really would make the cage bottoms out of wire. It's much easier to keep your rabbits healthy that way. It makes the cages much easier to clean / sanitize and keeps your rabbits from walking in poo all the time.

Your cage size is good for breeding. My hutches have the option of adding or removing plywood sides for winter shelter / summer cooling.

Did the guy you bought the rabbits from tell you how old they are? Most folks don't breed does until they are at least 6 months old.

Yes, they about 2 months old so I have a little time before I can breed them.

This is typical of the way I make my cage racks. I make all of my cages 2 feet in at least one dimension and vary the length according to need. By having one dimension 2 feet the rack can be used with any size cage. Just a matter of sliding one in or out. The cage shown is 2 feet by 4 feet. I haven't installed my poop chutes yet. I would never do without them. They make clean up simple.
