This morning, as I was rushing around feeding, I noticed Levi standing outside the stall, not joining the feeding frenzy...but didn't really think much of it, as she's a younger (2) doe and not very dominant / pushy at feeding time...thought she was just waiting her turn.

Came home tonight to several puddles of blood, blood-soaked tail, and blood smears on her 'buddy' goats that she usually hangs out with.

She still had 5-6 wks left to go, and she seems fine now, was eating dinner, etc....but it's just SUCH a bummer b/c as much as I love all my goats, there are SOME preggos who's kids I really look forward to seeing and she was one of them. She's also a really sweet red boer doe I was planning on keeping a kid out of.

I'm not looking for advice or diagnosis, I'm just wanting to share my...sadness...? Disappointment...? With folks who'd understand.

Poor wee kids....I hate lost babies! :barnie

AND....as much as I hate to bring money into it, she was bred to a really NICE buck I sold, so I can't repeat the breeding....and I've finished breeding for the year.
I guess I could re breed her next month (providing she is doing well) and kid her in April but....I wanted to be done in March.

Just a crappy situation on many levels. Thanks for listening...

So sorry to hear about your doe losing her kids. It really is always a sad situation. Doesn't matter if it is your best or worst girl. You just don't want it happening. :hugs

:( That sucks... A few years ago our Lab had a litter and by accident crushed one of her 2 female pups to death. It was really awful for us, because it was a litter of 10, 2 girls, the rest boys ALL blacks.

Boys sell awful, black boys... even worse...

So sorry for the loss of the babies. It really is frustrating when you have such high hopes for them and then this happens. :hugs

Thanks, guys...
Levi's acting today like nothing devestating happened yesterday. I think I'm more upset by it than she was. I'm glad, for her sake, that she's not suffering any ill effects.
