I just bought my first 2 calves and wanted to warn everyone that I'll be bugging you for info when I can't find it. I do have a question as to what breed I might have and will post a pic when I'm allowed but till then, I'm glad I found this site.

My hunch is that she's a mutt. Long-legged, runty little thing :)P) She could be Red Angus cross, could be red Shorthorn cross, could be Red Poll cross. Can't see the ears on her to see if she may even have some Brahman in her or not. But one thing I'm pretty sure of is that she's a crossbred.

BTW, :welcome !!

Thanks for the reply, I knew she was a cross and I'll get a pic of her head today and maybe that will help. I've been going to the sale barn for a few weeks and any thing that's black sells high. I don't know what prices are everywhere else but any black calf around here sells between $1.75 and $2.20 a lb. I'm trying to find some pure stock and start a little herd but it's hard to find good stock at a reasonable price or even young stock to start with. It seems everyone is holding on to calves till they get 6 to 8 months old before they sell so they make more money. I know I'm gonna have to pay for some good stock but I don't feel comfortable paying $300.00 at the salebarn for a calf that I know nothing about.
