We are thinking of keeping our jersey wooly in our unfinished basement/celler for the winter. We live in MN where it can be -20 degree's for two weeks straight durning the day and -40 or lower degree's at night. I know how to keep the water from freezing but would sure hate to come outside to it's hutch and find him a frozen stiff bunny!:( If we keep him in our basement, were it stays 50-60 degrees in the winter, should we keep a low watt lightbulb on for him for atleast 8-10 hrs aday? There is very little natural light down there. And maybe a radio turned down kinda low for some company while the kids are at school?

I'm not sure about the cold, but here is what I do with my woolies. They live in my garage. It gets about 10 degrees at minimum in the winter and they are fine. Your bunnies should be fine in the basement.

If you plan on breeding during the winter, I read somewhere that the ideal is to provide 16 hours of light a day. I don't believe it has to be bright light.

Any light will do. Had a great litter last winter with just one light by my doe's cage.
