I sold some goat milk to a lady over the weekend, and she brought me some kefir grains. I made kefir and tried it yesterday, and it was very tart, and almost carbonated (which I read can happen). I didn't particularly care for it plain.

This morning I made a smoothie with kefir, a banana, and some frozen berries (rasperries, blackberries, and blueberries), some goat milk, and a little ice. Oh man, it's good!

So what are some other things I can do with it? And when I made it I used fresh-out-of-the-goat milk, so it was warm. Next time can I use refrigerated milk?

Kefir is so good for you! If yogurt is Clark Kent, kefir is Superman.

There is an extensive discussion on kefir, troubleshooting, and many ideas on how to use it on the sister forum, sufficientself.

eta: For some reason, the computer I'm on is not letting me copy/paste the link. If you go to ss and put "kefir" in the search, and select "topic only" you will get a long list of kefir threads. The longest one has a lot of ideas in it, and there is one on getting kefir and yogurt into your children that has some good ideas on it's uses.
