Had my own baby 2 months ago, had 2 more kids this morning. :D:D First time with Nigerian Dwarfs, do they need to be locked up for a few weeks before they can go outside with momma? She is being kept separate from the herd in a large kennel with large dog house for protection. Didn't know if I should close the door for awhile to keep them in or not? Any thoughts?

Congrats on the new kids all around!

Welcome to BYH! Glad you found us!

With my Nigerians I keep the mom and kids separated for at least 2 weeks in order to make sure everything is fine and to play with the kids. The sooner the kids start playing with you the better, in my opinion. Makes the kids easier to handle as they get older. I let the girls raise their kids and I handle the kids as much as I can.

Pictures, please and thank you.

With my goats they were kept with their tiny herd, not put in a separate pen.

It would be less worry to keep them segregated.

If you work away from home, I would definitely keep them locked up.
