We took our buckling to a large dairy farm to get the lil guy disbudded. The man has dehorned hundreds of calves and a few goats. ?? Anyway, horns are back like pointy nubs.

Any suggestions? We recently picked up a disbudder and kid box. He's 4 weeks and I just gave him a tetanus two days ago. I hate to hurt him. :0(

You can disbud him again but I would wait a bit. As long as the horn can fit in the disbudder, you can do it.

I think protocol for reburns is to wait 6-8 weeks. But I've never done it before and I have Nigerians, so I don't know if his horn would end up being too large to fit into the iron at that age.

I did one of my buck kids late (3 wks) and one of his horns kept growing. I reburned him when I saw it. I think it was two weeks later. His burned nubbin just fell off and the area looks like I got it the second time. I'm not sure I'd wait, I'd redo it.

I took the dehorner and held it sideways on the top of the horn nubbin to burn it good in addition to using it around the base.
