Kitsara
Overrun with beasties
Been pretty busy working on accommodations for a trio of goats I was given this last fall. I'm not complaining, but keeping them dry and all has been a challenge. To make things even better, I was given a lovely young buck in lieu of money. So, in spite of everything I've been told in the contrary, our buck has been housed with the my does. Couldn't very well leave him out in the wide open spaces. So, knowing when my girls have been bred has been a little hit and miss. I'm thinking around Nov. 14, but I'm not for sure. Maybe a day or so sooner, but I did see him getting very interested and Skittles not putting up too much of a fuss as he tried mounting.
At the time, he would have been 9 months of age. Now, the two doelings, being late born, would have been only around 4 almost 5 months, but he didn't seem too interested in them. However, since I've not been able to house them separate, I'm sure that they have, they're udders seem to be developing, not much to them yet though, but certainly than they were 3 months ago. Either way, I figure, come April 13th, I'll have to be quite vigilant. Especially as we are off grid and have no electricity outside of a generator at night for a short bit. Least I've plenty of straw. We just got one of those big round bales, and more are easily come by.
Skittles, my herd queen, is a Nubian/Oberhasli and she's the sweetest thing ever. She loves to give kisses too. She was a twin herself, and she had twins her first time, so I'm hoping for twins again.
This is Skittles back in September
And these are some pictures from tonight. This evening while going out to feed them and just spend some some time with them, I noticed she had a small amount of whitish discharge. Pictures are a little fuzzy since I only had my phone on me instead of my camera and the sun was going down.
I tried to get some pictures of the girls, but my phone died in the middle of taking pictures, so I just have the two. Tried to check their tail ends, and Nougat really pitched a fit and would not let me look period, let alone try for a picture, and Taffy just kept walking away from me.
Nougat and Taffy are Skittles girls, and their daddy was a Nigerian Dwarf who escaped from his area during a snowstorm last year in February and helped himself to a number of does. The lady we got my does from was not terribly thrilled about since he wasn't registered and she had a registered buck she was planning on breeding with.
Nougat
This is a picture of Nougat (left) and Taffy(right) taken at the beginning of January. They're such lovely girls.
And of course, you can't have any kids without a daddy. Domino is purebred myotonic Pygmy. He's not registered but, I plan on getting him registered.
Edited to resize the overly large pictures. Ooops.
