A little off the topic of goats but I need advice on feeding raw to our LGD and hoping some people here know more than I. Our LGD's have been fed kibble and are doing fine on that, growing well, nice coats, healthy. We sent our first goat to the butcher and have lots of left over peices that we will not be putting into the freezer. We have ribs and spine mainly. My question is if we can give the lgd's the goat ribs and spine to enjoy or will this teach them to enjoy goat meat a little too much. Also, is it safe to give them these with bones or will they choke on the bones and hurt themselves. Since I have never fed raw, I just dont know lots of this stuff.

We feed our working dogs raw. Cooked bones are the ones dogs will choke on... Raw form is how dogs would eat givin a choice.
I make a raw stew with veggies and meat, bones fat and any other goodies around. And large leg bones to naw on daily..

I go to the butcher 2 times a month and the dogs have there own frezzer for meats and bones:lol:

And the goat wont bother the dogs food.

I do supplement with a joint vit just because of the size of the pyrs.

They are healthy and happy....:drool

PS they have never looked on there charges/ Goats Chicknes Turkeys / Duck which all live here as food EVER!!!

We used to feed a raw diet. My dog did well on it. We switched due to some pregnacy related issues (I was the main feeder and couldn't keep up during my pregnancy). That was three years ago  I really need to get her back on it.

Here's a link for some good info. If you read around on their site there is other info available as well.

I have dachshunds and my mother raises pugs and we are firm believers in Raw Diets. The only reason my dogs are not on them is because my 8 yr old is the primary doggy dinner preparer and I just can't trust him at this point with raw meat.

If they have not attempted, at this point, to harm a live goat, eating the meat is highly unlikely to drive them to attempt taking on a live goat now.

As previously stated, raw bones are best for dogs. It will depend on your dogs and their chewing habits in terms of possible choking. My dachshunds chew everything into nothingness whereas my mom's pugs tend to chew a little and attempt to swallow everything whole (its a pug thing).

Good luck!
