Our Lowline Angus is limping. We brought home 5 new cattle for her to play with last weekend and they spent Sunday, Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday mounting each other and having a wonderful time. Yesterday she didn't run for the food like she always does and kept herself apart from the others. Today I noticed she is limping. I felt her along her leg (fortunately she is very tame) and did not feel anything wrong she didn't flinch I didn't see anything in her foot but I was by myself so didn't lift it up very high. Do you think she could have sprained herself by mounting the others? What should I look for?

Thank you,

She probably did hurt herself when "playing" with the other cows. If you have Banamine, you could always give her a shot. It will help with any pain or swelling that she may have.

I don't have cattle, but this happened with one of our ewes who had been playing jump in and out and over the hay feeder and started limping. We felt no broken bones and kept a check on that leg and felt no hot spots and no swelling. Next day limp was improved, and the day after no limp at all. These silly critters just love to worry us, eh? Hope the limp is gone soon!

Twice. TWO TIMES I have seen a cow limping in the field, got my drug box ready, caught the cow and put her in the press, only to find a thorn that I plucked with two fingers. :barnie

Dont get kicked in the face over it, but look for a simple problem first.

Thanks for all the advice. We checked her leg and hoof and found nothing wrong. She is not skipping to us like she was but she does come when we go to her. Still limping but she is back to following the herd while they wander the pasture. When I have a sore leg it takes me a while to heal too.
