Can anyone tell me what the life expectancy is for a lionhead rabbit? I bought a 2 year old blue doe for my daughter, and she has been bred before according to the breeder, but she is NOT pregnant at the moment that I know of. I do not plan on breeding her. Just wondering how long we have with the bunny.

Thanks!

I don't know if life expectancy for a lionhead differs from a rabbit in general, but I believe up to 10 years with 7+ being a good average.

For an intact doe, I would estimate something between 3 - 5 years. There seems to be a tendency for does to develop cancer in some part of their reproductive system, often starting at about age 3. I hear that some breeds are less prone to this than others, I can't say whether this is true or not. I have had a few does that were 7+ years old when they died, but the majority were 5 or less. Getting a doe spayed should increase her life expectancy, but it's usually a rather expensive procedure.
