Looking for a vet

Good morning everyone! I don't have my goats yet but trying to be proactive on many things. The one important thing I need help with is finding a vet close to my area that will deal with goats. I called my normal vet that I use for my cats & dogs figuring he/she would be able to recommend someone if they were not able to do my vet care for me. I was shocked that they could not recommend someone.

I live between St Cloud & Brainerd MN and do/did all my vetting in Staples, MN.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I can check with some friends over in that area and see. Word of mouth is amazing sometimes. My other suggestion would be to just call different vets in the area and check.

How far is Blackduck from you? I hear that there is a good Livestock vet there. A friend of mine drives from Grand Rapids, mn for them.

Blackduck is over 2 hours away. I thought Staples would have something as its a farming community.

From my friend,

"Not great but Dr. Kim Motl at Staples Vet Clinic has raised goats and is pretty good. The other vets there are not, only her. She will do fecals and help with a lot of stuff though, but does not do a lot of goats outside of her own. I go online a lot on the Goat Vet Corner Facebook page, there is lots of good info there archived and you can ask questions from super vets who will get back to you when they can."

Just a thought... if there is a 4-H group nearby they may know of a vet.
