I'll post pictures as soon as I can get them uploaded... takes awhile.

Yesterday (Thursday 12/6) I saw on my buck (Cali X NZ) a lump, about the size of a small marble, beneath his right ear. This lump was not there when I fed him Wednesday evening.

This is the right side of his face.

Here is the left side of his face for comparison.

This lump does not hinder him from eating or drinking as he is doing both in his normal quantities. He does act a little subdued.

Yesterday when I would lightly rub on the lump he made quite noises but he didn't jerk or move away. Today I can slightly move the lump, not much but enough to make me think it isn't on the jaw or an tooth abscess. He does not make any noises today when I rub on the lump and it seems smaller, but that may be wishful thinking.

I am putting 1/4 teaspoon Duramycin-10 (tetracycline hydrochloride soluble powder) in his quart drinking water bottle, started yesterday.

I know it isn't much to go on. I'm leaning towards it being some nasty insect bite.

Any thoughts??

Thanks for asking, but he isn't doing any better. The lump is larger. I'm taking him to the vet on Wednesday. The only bright side to this problem is the buck is still eating and drinking. He isn't as energetic as before but will still come to the front of his cage for scratches and nose rubs. We'll see what the vet has to say.

I'm thinking he's has an abscess. I had a mini-lop doe with one on her shoulder. Once it was lanced it healed quick with an ointment. Will be thinking about you guys and hoping for the best.

I would second that, it sounds and looks a lot like an abscess. My cat once had one on the side of his jaw, we treated it much the same as amy bart. Treating an abscess is not pretty business :sick

Sure hope he will be okay!

It sounds like it came on pretty quickly. I would also make sure they check his teeth really well, if there is an abcess in his mouth, the swelling could show in his face like that. Poor fella, I hope you get him all fixed up in a jiffy.

Thanks all for the well wishes. The buck is at the vet recovering from his surgery as I type. I'll pick him up later this afternoon. The vet confirmed it was an abscess and said that such an abscess is common in rabbits. The vet also said sometimes they can't come up with a reason for the abscess. I'll press the vet this afternoon to see if he found a reason... would be grand to know. The rabbit didn't stop eating so I have a difficult time thinking any of his back teeth were bad... but I'm no vet, nor do I play one on TV. I'm just very glad that it is over but for the healing.

My boy is feeling and looking much better! He's jumping around his condo, volunteering his head for scratches and fighting me over taking his oral antibiotic! Odd to be grateful for a squirmy bunny, but I am to the max!

We go back to the vet on Monday to have the one stitch snipped and the packing removed. He is expected to have a complete recovery.

Thanks again for all the well wishes as we do appreciate your concern.

Nope wasn't me on TV.
