I was giving my little guy a massage tonight and felt 2 adjacent lumps on his chest but in his "underarm" area. One is about a 1/2 inch and the other is about 1/4 inch in diameter. They are semi-soft and do not seem to cause pain, there are not breaks in the skin. He is a Nigerian Dwarf wether and is only 9 weeks old. I have had him for a week and a half and didn't notice the lumps before tonight. His castration became complete today, if you know what I mean, too. Could those just be a fluke, or is it something I need to worry about (like CL, please hope not). I haven't noticed the lumps before today, even with turning him upsidedown almost every day to check on the progress of the castration. I got him from a reputable farm. Should I bring him to the vet, or just keep an eye on it. I am probably freaking out over nothing, at least I hope. I don't want to end up with the other little guy getting something too. I didn't quarantine either of them since I didn't have a place to keep the 2 separate from each other, and they were both from reputable places. I am already paranoid about missing some indicator of illness.

If you have a good goat vet it certainly wouldn't hurt for the vet to check it out. It is better to be safe than sorry. Sounds like you are taking very good care of your goats and that is great that you are so observant.

I would ask the farm you bought him from if that's where he was vaccinated. My guess would be shot lumps....but it could also be some sort of bite or sting, too....
Never hurts to start at the source.

I agree. That's where I would start.

They are shot lumps. Good guesswork! I e-mailed the farm I got him from last night and she said that was where he was vaccinated. I didn't realize the vaccinations could cause lumps. Thank you for your help.

The CD/T shot is infamous for causing lumps/abscesses and a lot of people that routinely vaccinate this way give shots in the "armpit area" especially if they show.. that way the lump is not seen as fault. I learned this a long time ago when I was new to goats too.. felt a lump in the armpit area and freaked.. low and behold the breeder's vet did vaccines in the armpit area.. whew.. personally I cant imagine trying to do this in a full sized goat though.. yikes

This is good to know, I hadn't seen anything about that until after I noticed and posted about it. My guys are only going to be pets, but still good to know in case I would ever expand in the future. My brain can never absorb too much information.
