I am dealing with my first mange case. As least I think it is mange.
My goat Diego in the course of three days or so is now quite bald over his shoulders and rib cage and face.
I have not taken him to vet as I just dropped 210 at the vet for dog treatment. Ugh
I did consult with her over phone and she suggested a fecal (for internal parasites) and from my description she agreed mange or mites. So I gave him ivermectin injection to kill skin parasites.
There is nothing sadder looking than a mangy goat.

I just love goats. LOL

Giving the injection will only kill SUCKING mites/lice, he very well could have chewing mites/lice and the ivermectin injection won't touch it. At this point I would do a topical. JMO

Southern By Choice has a great article on her website about it.

I bought a buck with what seemed a permanent case of mites. We did the ivermectin and it seemed to help but what finally did it was Sulfur Lime dip.

I shave him down, washed him thoroughly using a scrub brush on the flakey skin, and with him restrained in a milk stand, I used a garden spray to apply the solution. It smells awful and I had to do a follow up treatment a few weeks later but it did the trick.

He is doing better. Looks like the hair is growing back and the flaky skin is going away. I gave him a dose of wormer a few days ago orally to take care of internal worms. He is gaining weight. I was thinking I would give another dose via injection just to make sure the mange is taken care of.
