My 3yr old mare went to roll by the tree and fence and ended up getting stuck. She was fine rolling on her left side till she went all the way over to get the other. She ended up half over and still on her back. She couldn't get enough momentum to get rolled back over. I was watching her from the house and was thinking don't roll over. I was scared for a little bit because her sire was found dead in his stall in a similar position!!!
I am proud of her though. She started to panic till I got to her and then she calmed down. Once she relaxed I was able to move her just enough that she could get up.
She is ok but it scared me for a few. She is not normally the type that calms down very easy.

Forgot to ask How can I keep her from rolling in this area??

It always amazes me how animals can get themselves into a pickle even in a pasture. Doesn't matter what kind of animal either. Glad to hear your horse is ok. :)

Just put a log or some big rocks (something she won't get hurt on) that will make the area not inviting to roll in.

If an animal is cast and struggling, it is really a two person job, and can be a dangerous one! Especially in a tight space. Glad you were able to help her. They often know instinctively when we are trying to help....but not always. Glad you are both ok!

Oh geez, Sometimes I get worried Luna will get cast when she rolls in the sunny corner of the field she likes to spend time in.

They always want to roll near a fence or wall - ever notice that? Geesh 20 acres to roll on and they have to find a spot against the fence. Darn mare I had cast herself on a tree, legs and tree on the downhill side - that was fun!

Somewhere I have a picture of a neighbors draft horse that not only got herself stuck inbetween trees body wise and her back foot wedged in a fork of another tree... now she was STUCK! had to saw her out. lol

Trouble spots I put rocks [we have an ample supply of them here]... logs seem to get moved ... especially if you have a buz saw
:p like I do

Glad your mare came out ok.
