What next????? Seriously...we bought a doe in milk, came in perfect health CAE negative and all that, only 3 weeks fresh...Beautiful saanen doe, production has dropped a little, but I figured it would with the stress of a new home some...she's a jumpy thing, good on the stand, but nervous and easily bossed around by LuGoose...still...something IS off....
When it rains, it pours, literally! A huge storm last night left me without power until late this morning! Why not.....I spent the better part of 2 weeks collecting fecals and such and back and forth to the vets...got the cocci issues all under control (woohoo!) and THEN I had to get hubby ready to ship off to Pennsylvania for work! THAT was a nightmare of laundry and packing and craziness! And now...dumdumdum....MASTITIS!
Overall, she's normal...no temp...udder is fine - not hot, hard clumpy, lumpy or red or anything else...but production has dropped by half it seems in the last couple of days (and to be honest I figured it was not a big deal...WE JUST GOT HER IN MILK LAST WEEK!!! AHHHH!!!)and I noticed this morning that last night's milk (from the evening milking that is) was stringy when i poured it in the morning....I REALLY figured it had more to do with the fact that I was WITHOUT ELECTRICITY for 9HOURS!!!! Storm blew through at midnight, lights went out and weren't back on until after 9am today...I figured the milk had gotten warm in the fridge and had never cooled down completely as I milk late....it was hot in here without AC...so I wasn't sweating it...but just to be safe....
I DID run the CMT kit test tonight on ALL the does in milk and hers is ..."SUSPICIOUS".....not a gel, but positively thicker and slimey once you add the reagant and swizzle it....WHAT DO I DO NEXT????
All I want to do is take a break and a nap...but now this....AND ALWAYS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!!! Never on a weekday does ANYTHING get sick! OF course What can I or should I be doing at least until Monday morning? What's going to be the best thing for something that is currently minor? I have her apart from the others, as she is new, and still in quarantine...Lucy runs her off of the fenceline anyways whenever she gets close to the other does still (someone is jealous much)...so what next? Anything helps...I'm outta bright ideas at the moment....
