My saanen mix doe is one and a half. She was running with a buck from november to march. My pygmy already kidded so I didn't think that the smaller buck got the job done. Now she has started to build a small udder but it is uneven. Of course possibility one is that she is going to kid within the month. My concern is that she is going into maiden milk. She injured herself on a piece of glass a few weeks ago. It was deep but it has healed up amazingly with daily care and no longer needs wrapped. Do traumatizing injuries case a maiden milk? My pygmy kid is not nursing as the saanen will not let the kid near her much less nurse. Since it has been getting progressively uneven I had my DH hold her so I could check for heat on the teat and milk. No real unusual heat but she did have milk and it was watery and slightly chunky. From what little I was able to get out before she rammed DH. Looks nothing like my pygmy's milk. She is still eating well and running around playing.
In such a situation should I milk her out on the offending side in case of mastitis or should I just wait and see if she kids soon. The udder has been building for about a week and a half.
Thanks

Chunky doesn't sound good but I'm not sure. I would probably be inclined to milk that side out if the milk isn't normal.

Hopefully someone with more experience will come on and give you a better answer.
