Mechanical hand milkers?

Thinking of buying this for those times I need to get milk or colostrum out and a teat is too small n tricky to milk by hand.

Don't want to spend a fortune, I've seen some DIY versions with a syringe, tube & spray bottle top, but thought that was too cheap, though, would be easy to get another $1.50 bottle and replace top to fix it...hmm. I guess this linked one is like a fancy spray bottle top. =/

Anywho, anyone have this one or a similar one?

Have you looked at breast pumps? I've use them successfully & sometimes they actually work better with a small/short teat & fat/flat udder. Think mini horse here &/or Niggie, etc.

Sometimes I've seen them at yard sales, etc. One brand I had was fantastic EXCEPT it used a tensioner like an odd rubber band. Couldn't get replacements. So watch for such things.

The spray bottle tops -- need to handle more volume than most are designed to do.

What is about those things that they can't make one that will last? I used to think it was because I had bleach in them but discovered that water is just as bad. Frustrating.

I have no experience with the milkers.

I looked up breast pumps after this thread, to see if I could buy JUST the little bands, actually -- WOW, I didn't know how extensive these things have become. One on CL-- it was $300, electric &/or battery and all that. Then google -- first thing in the prelim was "your insurance may pay" -- "hospital grade". Dang, things are way beyond pump before going to work.

Since I didn't look further, I was really chuckling too hard -- I am not sure how extensive these things are but, sounds like I may want to meet up with a new mom who can get one for me to adapt for the goats.....

OK -- a little off topic......but.....we need to think "what do we use that has a hand squeeze pump" ? I find auto shops have more of these devices than many may think.

The Henry milkers use a constant pressure, although it can be easily adjusted by manipulating the pressure, up & down. Does the Maggidan ? Or, is the Maggidan ONLY on pull when you squeeze, like manual breast pump?
