Wow I am super tired right now. We've been showing our goats all weekend. I posted another thread on our preparation and show clipping this week. It was a lot of work, but it was well worth it!!!

The show was sponsored by the North Carolina Dairy Goat Breeders Association and was held at the Eastern NC Ag Center in Rocky Mount, NC.

It was a great show with over 300 animals. The Nigerians had the largest number of animals. I think I heard there were 60.

There are two shows one on Sat and one on Sun under two different judges.

The first picture will tell you what kind of weekend we had :D

We are really happy about Taffy. She came in first place in the 1-2 year old milkers Sat and Sun in a large class of animals (11) It's great when two judges see it the same way.

Coleus too Reserve Grand Champion Sr. Doe on Sat. She is a 2 year old and this is her second freshning.

Daisy took Grand Champion Jr. Doe on Sat.

Zamia won the 3 year old age group on Saturday, and was picked Grand Champion Sr. Doe and Best of Breed on Sunday. This is Zamia's second Grand Championship and she has never not won her age group. She is a very nice doe.

Since Daisy took Grand Champion Jr Doe on Saturday, we scratched her from the line up on Sunday thinking another of our Jr's could pick up their dry leg. Turned out to be a good move, Clara Belle was picked Grand Champion Jr Doe on Sunday.

This was by far our best show ever!!!:D

I need some sleep now.

Congrats!!! :clap :thumbsup
You will be interested to know that Best in Show (Sr. Doe) on Sunday was a fantastic Nubian from Frog Flat Farms in Selma, NC. They are friends of ours and we were thrilled for them. The judge didn't take 2 minutes to make her pick. I couldn't see her that well at the time because I showed Zamia in the line up to pick Best in Show, but my wife Maurine said it was an obvious pick. I got to look at her real close when they were taking pictures and she was truly the best there that day.

Best Sr. in Show on Sat was a Togg type Recorded Grade from K Bar C Ranch in Nashville, NC. Dr. Cole Younger and his wife are both large animal vets and they have really nice Toggs and Togg type grades.

Awesome! Wish I could see a picture! I just went to my mentors Linear Appraisal and have been spending a few days a week over there shaving for her next show. They next one is June 1st and I am going to go with. I've never been and I have learned SO much in the last few weeks! My brains are swarming with goat stuff! LOL! I want to show my baby girls after they freshen this next year, as well as get a linear appraisal on my whole farm. :D

Google Frog Flat Farms, they are in Selma NC. I just checked they have updated their facebook page. They had a great show overall as well.

We are actually having ADGA out in Sept to do a linear appraisal on our herd.

That's just awesome. Love the pics. :clap :clap
Thanks. We had a blast. This was by far the most successful show we've ever had.
We knew our animals were nice though. Taffy winning her age group both days, and Daisy getting GC Jr. Doe were the best because we bred them on our farm. Coleus and Zamia are "hired talent", we bought them after their first freshing.

Zamia was a bit of a surprise. She kidded in Oct and was 8 months into lactation. You wouldn't expect to win a GC and in a spring show with a stale doe.

My wife Maurine did a great job managing her. Milked her twice a day before the show, and essentially began drying her off at the show. Milked her Friday morning, and skipped Friday night so for the Saturday show she was on a 24 hour fill.

After the Sat show she milked her a small amount, may be a cup.

Sunday show was the next morning so another 24 hours. This is what she looked like when we milked her out after the Sunday show when she was GC and best of breed.

There were a lot of fresher does there. But she has a nice udder, strong medial suspensory ligament, and her teat placement is better than most ND's. And she has great feet and legs which is 25% of the score, and great overall appearance.
When they pick all of the GC's and bring the winners of each breed out to pick Best in Show, the judge likes to see the udder milked out since they have already seen it full. She milks out very flat. Again, look at the way her teats point straight down. Most ND's kick out. The way an udder milks out is very important. Milked out a full quart at this point
