I bought a cheap microscope off of ebay to check for fecal parasites and it works really well. Very handy if you have a lot of animals and or fish. There are lots of references online to pull up images of all kinds of bugaboos.

Congrats on the new microscope! I thought there was a string somewhere on this site about how to do your own fecals - I'm really interested in that since we don't really have a vet nearby that treats goats. Can't seem to find the string though...any ideas?

Google a specific parasite, maybe that will get you there.

I just bought one off ebay too. I can't wait to try it out, get real good at it and maybe do them for people locally....

I've got my microscope, but not the slides. I've still got to buy those

Go to fiascofarm.com and under the goats section, there is a section on fecal testing.

Just remember if you are using the McMAsters it should be 4 grams with 26 ml solution. If you have the 2 chambered slides then multiply eggs by 25 for EPG count. If you have the pre-measured beakers make sure you poke the fecal down until it takes the 4 grms til the fill line of 30ml. :)
