Does anyone here sell milk from their goats? I have a lady that is very interested in getting some goat milk from me, but I have no idea what to charge for it. Just BTW, so far as I have been able to research, farm sales are supposed to be legal here in Illinois. I thought about doing goat shares, but I am not even sure how exactly those work.

;)I HAVE A LADY WHO BUYS FROM ME, WE SAY IT'S FOR HER CRITTERS, I WAS CHARGING 5.00 A GALLON, BUT SHE GIVES ME 8.00, CAUSE SHE SAID IT WAS WORTH IT TO HER TO PAY MORE, SHE HAS TO HAVE THE MILK. I GUESS SHE WAS PAYING AROUND 17.00 IN THE STORE FOR IT, JUST MAKE SURE IF YOUR TREATING YOUR ANIMAL FOR ANYTHING, THAT YOU KEEP THAT MILK SEPARTE FROM YOUR MILK.

I suppose it varies due to supply/demand in each area. The dairy that I bought my goats from was licensed to sell raw goat milk from a holistically raised herd. Not organic, but about as close as you can get without the certification. Her milk sold in the local health food stores for $6.00/quart. :ep If a customer commited to buy 2 gallons or more each week she would sell it for $10.00 per gallon from the farm. Customers brought their own jars though.

A cow dairy several hours south of me charges $8 per gallon from their farm or $10 from a local co-op that takes turns picking it up.

On craigslist I've seen "pet quality" (aka: perfectly fine raw milk that can only be sold as "pet" milk because anything else is illegal to sell in our state) selling for $5 per gallon on up to $5.00 per half gallon.

Here in Florida we pay $10-$12/gallon and its considered pet quality, it is illegal to sell it for human consumption. $5 a gallon sounds REALLY cheap, I wish I could find it for that, we pay close to that for grocery store cows milk.

I have two friends selling raw goat milk, one gets $5 a gallon and the other gets $8.

If I were to buy a gallon's worth of the pint cartons of goat milk at the local grocery store, it would be $16 a gallon!

I don't sell milk, but I get $10 a pound for my cheeses and people don't have a problem with paying that much at all. We have to sell it black-market style, as Arizona doesn't allow the sale of raw milk or dairy products without a raw dairy license, and it would cost me around $100,000 to get the proper facilities and equipment to do so, and with less than ten milkers, that's really not an option.

If I were to sell raw milk, which is totally illegal in MD, I'd charge $2/qt or $7/gallon.

I've seen "pet quality" milk sold around me for $5 / quart - frozen in baggies. I don't sell milk from my farm though. And in Ohio it's illegal to sell raw dairy products for human consumption...they are trying to make it illegal to consume the milk from your own farm without putting in a grade A dairy facility too

It's all a "we sell goat milk for animal consumption (wink wink)" game around here. They even make you sign a contract that states you are purchasing for your animals and you can't be held liable for use of the milk for any other purpose. The other way to do it is to sell milk shares.
