Yes we have done Nigerian/Boer. It was only because we wanted to breed out Boer does at the time and our buckling wasn't up to the job yet. I will see if I can scrounge up photos for you. They look more Nigerian in the heads but are thicker bodied.
They grew well but were nowhere near the size of a full Boer obviously. When I processed them at 9-10 months, I got maybe 25 pounds each of actual meat off the bone.
With our buck older now, I won't do the cross again since it isn't a great meat maker.
I may be getting a doeling that's crossed like that but id breed her only to a Nigerian buck, but where I live Hispanic people go crazy for Nigerian and pgymy meat i don't know why the always pick Nigerian even if they see the much larger boers and Spanish goats.
Definitely. Market demands and available supply make a huge difference. Around me, there are no Nigerians and people want them as both home dairy and for show/pet so when we do sell, we can charge more. With our meat animals though, we don't do much selling since we use them for our freezer but there are sooooo many around us that the prices on mixes are pretty cheap. A friend of ours went to an auction and bought 11 goats for just a few hundred! The were a mix of breeds and needed some major parasite control of course before processing but if you were looking for cheap meat, that is a decent deal.
Around here goats are really expensive because many people don't raise goats, plus the meat is real popular. The cheapest you can get a goat is a bottle baby for about 75 and higher but you got to drive up to 2 hours!!
