Just got a couple pygmy bottle baby boys that are going to be wethered. I'm interested in getting a female in the future, now that I am LOVING being a goat owner. Anyway, w/limited space was looking at NigDwarf for a little milking, then discovered MINI NUBIANS and I am in love w/how they look. Their size seems to be more managable than the full size, right?? I also discovered a mini nubian is a nig dwarf buck and nubian doe, is this correct??? Just wondering if I couldn't get my hands on a local mini nubian breeder, would it be hard to have a full size nubian gal myself and just breed her myself w/a nig dwarf?? Also, hopping to milk the mini nubian and thinking that would be a great happy med between nigerian and nubian.

Sorry for the rambling but any input/experience would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have minis. They are great! My full grown buck weighs about 60 pounds. Like any dairy goats, you have to look for goats with good dairy backgrounds. A nigi buck and a nubian doe will produce 1st generation mini-nubians, but they sometimes are not really all that mini until further generations.

They are very milkable, although their teats are naturally smaller than those of a full grown Nubian, but generally not as small as a nigi. The mini I am attempting to milk right now (she has triplets, so I am not milking her in earnest until her babies are weaned) is providing milk enough for her triplets with some left over.

I really like raising our minis. They are a very managable size. I am only 5'2" and I can still trim the buck's hooves and give him meds and shots by myself. There is no way I could handle a full sized doe, much less a buck by myself. You can see pics of our minis on our website. I've been meaning to add some mini info on there, but haven't yet gotten around to it. Too much time spent taking care of goats and kids (human). BTW, you say you are looking for minis in your area...where do you live? I might be able to connect you to someone close to you.

Mini M,
I love your website! Thanks for sharing. Your kids(human and goat) are adorable! We too have a very similar vision to you and your family of self sufficiency, and will be homeschooling my oldest dd in the fall for K. :) I am in Monroe, NC...about 30-40 mins from Charlotte. We at the time are still "Backyard Farmers" and would love to expand to more land in the future. Thanks for the info on the minis.
