I have two Nigerian Dwarf Goats with a fenced in area of about 5,000 square feet. Most of my goats' roaming yard is steep (un-tillable) and shared with chickens and dogs. The ground has become pretty bare and the hill is beginning to crumble. Any suggestions for an easy-to-broadcast summer cover crop that helps with erosion control and is good fodder for goats (and chickens, if possible), but that chickens won't eat the seeds of or scratch up? Rotating fenced areas or blocking out certain animals isn't really an option. Any ideas for a multi-use cover crop?? (Winter and spring crops are useful to know too, for the future.) Thanks!!

Gosh that is a tall order. :) While you might find something you could seed there that would hold up well to goats, if your chickens are anything like mine, they will rip up just about anything they can. How many chickens are we talking?

I haven't found anything that a chicken can't scratch up yet. Seems that is all they do. Even with a dish full of food they will peck a bit and then scratch.
