I got my buck 9 days ago and put him in with my two does and one wether. The buck is only 4 months old, the does and wether are between 2 and 3 years old. I thought that eventually the girls might get interested in him but not that I can tell. I am not out there all the time so I may be missing something. HOWEVER, my wether is acting like a complete doofus. He is making weird sounds, tongue flapping and trying to mount my buck. WHAT is that all about????

Your buck might be a late bloomer, if he's not showing signs of interest yet. Mine is doing the same, while the buck I had before was impregnating does at 3 months old.

It's funny about your wether, I have the opposite problem...my buck shows no interest in does, but he's all over the wether, trying very hard to mate, I think he has traumatized that poor wether because he walks around with his tail tucked between his legs all the time!

I guess, but I would have thought that he would have acted this way with the does, not the new buck. Although he was low man on the totem pole before the new buck showed up so maybe he is showing he is dominant.

That is funny but sad about your poor wether! I am introducing a new doe tomorrow as my friend is getting a divorce so we will see how that goes. Perhaps with a new underdog thrown in things will get interesting. I wish my buck would get some action going.

One of your does are in heat. Your does began to cycle when you introduced a fertile buck but the buck may be too young or inexperienced to "handle the job" yet. The wether is older and although he has been "fixed" he is still a Billy...He can tell when the time is near and it sounds like the time is near....you might consider seperating the older wether from the group of does and the younger buck. The little guy may be intimidated by the older bigger wether and therefore not as willing to "do his business", if you want the does bred anyway. If you see yur buck or wether ,for that matter, with dirty looking inner front legs and chest, you can be sure he/they have been "checking out your does state of readiness".

Thank you!!! Now that makes much more sense! Yes, I do want them bred which is why the are all together. I am building buck / wether pen as we speak!
