My grounding rods are hot--any ideas?

I've been told this shouldn't be so! Does it mean my fence is inadequately grounded?

We tested the entire fence and it is a consistent 6000v though I know it could (should?) be 8000.

What charger are you using? Are you sure you have the wires from the ground rods connected to the proper part of the charger? The chargers I have (several brands, strengths and solar vs. AC) all have different looking attachment points. Some are super obvious, some are not.....

That's the only thing I can think of... I've been using electric fence for over 30 years and I've never experienced or heard of the rods being hot...

I've been waiting to hear an answer to this one. I have limited experience and have never had that happen but I sure am having an issue this year with my solar charger. But it's not the ground rod being hot.

I had the same issue with a 100 mile fence charger, I have 5 strands of high tensile strength wire over 8 acres. I worked for a week trying to locate the problem. The fix was to use a weed eater under the bottom strand of wire. It took 2 days of hard work, after that roundup once a month takes care of the problem. Once I got all the vegetation away from the fence everything works as it should.

I see where a lot of people contain goats with electric fence, after 4 years of trying I have still not figured out the secret, my Boers walk through every electric fence I put up. I have 7000 volts on my current fence and the goats walk through as fast as I put them in. I have no climb horse wire over about 8 acres and that holds the goats with no problem. if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong please do>

Do you have current going thru all the wires or do you alternate hot wire with ground wire? When I finally alternated hot/ground my goats stopped going thru the hot wire. However they still walk down the wire fence. I am currently running hot wire on top of the wire fence.

We put up our electric fence yesterday. One of the sheep kept touching it with her hind end until she turned around and walked right through it. She noticed her herd was on the other side to ran back through it. The speed it took, she must have gotten shocked on her legs. Her back and hind end still has winter coat on it (Kathadin sheep still in the process of shedding). Next time she touched it with her nose and ran the other way. Same with the 3 other adult sheep!

Wonder if your goat is just not sensitive enough to the shock in certain areas, too much hair or thick skin?
