I am leasing a calf from my friend( Same one I lease goats from) to show before it is butchered. I will only be able to show it once at the 4-H Fair then it will be slaughtered, which I'm fine with (Sounds yummy to me!) It is a red holstein, which I will be showing as veal.
Before he was scouring, but then we put him on scour halt, antibiotics from a friend farmer, and electrolytes. It looks like he will come around as of now.
I am beginning to halter train him, using a brand new halter I bought today. I put the hater on him, pulled him out of the pen. Then, I would pull him and say walk. If he took a step, I would praise him and give him a rub. Persistence is the key with this technique!!!
Pictures in a few days, once I go to the farm with my camera!
***** I hope the slaughtering/butchering doesn't hurt anyone!****
