My mini Nubian starter kit may have a glitch. The does that were with my ND buck did not get pregnant. I talked to my vet and he says doing the test on the buck will cost $85. I don't want to wait to see if he is capable or not because my does won't be ready to breed until fall. If nothing happens that will put my another year away from milk. I think the money would be better invested in finding a mini that's already been bred. Then, if things actually do work out between Max and our current does we'd have babies from two different bucks, which would give us some additional breeding options. Does that sound reasonable?
And where do I begin to find minis in the NE Kansas area? Doesn't seem to be too many. I know one person who is starting to breed but won't have any to sell at least until next year. And I don't know goats well enough to just buy from a random person who says "Oh yeah, that's a mini." I could end up with a meat goat mix for all I'd know. Suggestions anyone?

We bred our Nubian for mini's this year because I love our mini manchas. Ruby is due in March. I know what you mean though. I have been looking for Mini Nubian bucks. So if I retain (if I actually get a doeling- you know right now we are on the BOY roll) I will have something to breed to next year. I can find them here but too many people are not testing for CAE, then I run into the problem of on the Nigerian side. So many are related. Found one breeder, really like the genetics but we have related Nigie stock. Grrr.

The other issue is F-1 and F-2 end up with airplane ears and many people want the Nubian long floppy ears. It takes quite a few generations to get there. Just like the mini mancha... elf ears people like nut long ears not so much. Our F-2 buckling has Nigie ears (somewhat dropped though not completely erect) . He is gorgeous too!

I have found a transport co. Not sure if they do goats but I may use them for my Anatolian pups. I may have to see if they can bring me a goat!
