Will hay made of Oklahoma native grass be adequate hay for my goats for the winter?

Should be... I hope so, it's what we've got! I am no expert by any means, but I think they mainly need the hay for roughage and to keep warm. We also feed a goat ration as well.

Edited to add - ANY hay ALONE is NOT an adequate feed.

Thank you, fellow Okie.

Right now we are feeding the Dumor tractor supply unmedicated feed and some BOSS and they have been just foraging most of the day aside from that. I figured the forage would get sparse soon and the only hay I could find was native grass!

Thanks!

I am curious about using native grasses like eastern gama, switchgrass, miscanthus, etc., for stock-feed. Switchgrass is toxic to goats. So, that's a no. Goats will kill themselves over gamagrass because it's very palatable. It has 17% of crude protein. Has anyone had experience growing or feeding it to livestock? Thanks!
