We had a slight problem with infections in lambs this year (no casualties, thank goodness I caught it in time!) through the umbilical cord. We don't spray them at birth and haven't for years because of bad chemicals and stuff, and haven't had any problems until now. So I'm wanting to start again but am reluctant to pay loads of money for a tin can if it is possible to make it myself out of natural materials. Most things are. So I was just hoping someone might have an idea of how to do that? I'm not very good at science but I might be able to work something out...

I just have a bottle of iodine, pour a little in a small dixie cup or cut off bottom of a waterbottle and dip the cord in. No fuss no muss, easy peasy. I ~think a spray would be tough to aim and get a good covering as well.
