Hi! I'm usually found on the byc forum as SillyChicken... but since we're also getting some Yak soon, I'm joining this site too. I'm between Jackson and Ann Arbor. I grew up on a small hobby farm and helped to care for the calves, pigs and crops. Luckily I was small enough then that I got to drive the tractors alot!

Today my DH and I have 10 acres, 18 chickens, 4 mastiffs and 2 geese, and hope to get our Yak herd started next spring. With all the free ranging critters, our yard tends to have alot of "land mines" so we've called our farm, Watch Your Step Ranch, it seems like thats what we're always saying when we're outside! I just saw a post about using "mines" for fuel and ash for fertilizer... how cool is that!

We're trying to get away from depending on a grocery store for all our food. This is our second year with a large garden, first with chickens and geese, (so far no eggs from the hens, but the geese eggs are delish! Of course I can't wait for next year!! We've been canning everything from venison to potatoes~!

Revisiting my first post! A lot can change in 2 yrs... we ended up not getting the yaks. I decided that they were too big for our land at this time. We went in a different direction completely! The farm went to WYS to Feckin Farm (still is) but all my livestock is reg under Pine Hollow Farm.. cause we have dairy goats and Jacobs sheep instead and I figure if I sold a kid to a kid... the FF name would be very good, So Pine Hollow it is! They're easy to manage for us, plus the milk and wool have been added benefits! We have lost 2 of our mastiffs this year, very sad year for us, but we're bringing a puppy home in a few weeks, I can't wait!
